Week 6 @ VB18

This weeks webinar covered consultative selling. While it is easy to go on and on about a product for over 10 to 15 minutes. One of the main objectives for this week was to be able to pitch our ideas within 5 minutes. This is inherently challenging because you’ve got to identify your key features without going into too much detail while still effectively describing your product. Another recurring lesson from last week was to be able to identify the pains of our potential customers along with our proposed solutions.

To facilitate the pitching process, we used a Value Proposition Canvas (VPC) and Business Model Canvas (BMC) charts to organize our projects. These charts are a great way to breakdown our pitch into concise sections in point form. While my project is still in its ideation and research phase, the VPC helps to provide structure and direction for the business into a perspective where customers can clearly identify our objectives. These include listing out products and services, pain relievers, and gain creators, with this format in mind we can then construct a coherent pitch.

During the webinars, several teams had the opportunity to practice presenting their pitch to our wonderful and knowledgeable instructor S.J. One observation I made that was apparent in most teams was how they had a tendency to go over 5 mins. S.J was very patient and gave very useful tips on how to improve our pitching methods. I am looking forward to his 1 on 1 sessions with our respective groups the next coming week.
